week 9 - podcasts and audio

Podcasts would be a great tool for conducting learning modules in the library, especially to those in rural areas. Lectures, tours, storytime, book reviews. The list is endless!

week 8- answer boards and social searching

Home - Answer Board Librarians

I really like answer boards but like with everything on the Internet you need to filter out the rubbish to find a good answer.

I can see the appeal of asking an anonymous question, there is no face to face so there is that feeling of safety, hiding behind the screen!

Week 7: Tagging, folksonomies, del.icio.us and LibraryThing

http://www.librarything.com/catalog/BreaB

Library thing is yet another tool to extend library services.

I really appreciate the talks and groups, it is a good way for like minded people to connect with each and talk about their findings.

Del.icio.us was interesting and quite useful as well.

Week 6 "online video"

I for one love online video's, youtube is my friend.
I love how Mosman Library is using online videos for all kinds of things from author talks, interaction of media coverage and political activity. Even a customer review. It's a fantastic way of using this technology.

week 5 "explore wikipedia"

Anybody can post anything on Wikipedia so while it is a good starting point to find information we need to remember that the information is not credible. We need to dig deeper for our quest for information.
Library Success: A Best Practices Wiki is a page created by librarians, you need permission before you can edit anything on this page which is a great idea and stops uniformed information being published.
Wookieepedia on the other hand is a page that anyone can edit. Thankfully the content is all things Star Wars which is a "light" topic.
